CONCEPT & ROLE
OpenAIRE's mission is to support the transition to open science by offering over 15 services for researchers, institutions, and funders. As the lead UI/UX designer of a small team for the last 6 years, my role involved coordinating design efforts, setting goals and timelines, providing guidance, and overseeing the entire UI/UX process, from conducting user research to collaborating on service enhancement and development.
CHALLENGE
Establishing a design team from scratch was a key challenge, requiring education on effective collaboration. Rapid service expansion increased demands and complexities, necessitating efficient strategies for managing vast amounts of information. Collaborating with diverse teams across Europe and adapting to various technical and strategic constraints required innovative solutions and continuous process adjustments to maintain high usability standards.
