The OpenAIRE Monitor service began as an idea to address the need for comprehensive research monitoring. Initially, it was far from a complete and functional service, but the project evolved to include two main components: the monitor dashboard for end-users and the admin dashboard for content management.

Up to 220% increase in the number of dashboards

High user satisfaction and positive feedback

Effective fulfillment of user needs and expectations
Initial State
Challenges
From a nearly non-existent idea to a fully functional and efficient tool.
When the project began, the service was in its draft stages, with several key issues:
Problems:
1) Outdated and poorly organized information.
2) Difficulty locating existing dashboards, which were only listed by name.
3) Landing pages with categorized accordions containing charts, rather than interactive dashboards.
Goals:
1) Clarify Service Purpose: Clearly communicate the purpose and methodology of the Monitor service.
2) Improve Information Organization: Ensure that all information is up-to-date and well-organized.
3) Enhance Dashboard Accessibility: Make dashboards easily discoverable and accessible to users through search pages.
4) Create Dashboard Structures: Develop interactive and user-friendly dashboards.
5) Develop Admin Dashboards: Implement admin dashboards for the creation and management of user dashboards.
Design PROCESS
The design process for the OpenAIRE Monitor was a comprehensive and iterative journey. It involved extensive user research, detailed requirements analysis, prototyping, usability testing, and close collaboration with various teams. Each phase was crucial in transforming the initial idea into a robust and user-friendly service, ensuring that the final product met the needs and expectations of its users.
